Prevention and Cure of Common "Pest" of Cucumber

The recommended application for aphids involves using 20% acetamiprid EC at a rate of 16 to 20 ml per acre, diluted in 2000 to 2500 times the volume of water. Alternatively, 2.7% to 33.3 ml of 2.5% alpha-cyfluthrin EC can be applied per mu, mixed with 1200 to 1500 times water. Another option is 10% cypermethrin emulsifiable concentrate at 25–35 ml per acre, diluted to 1200–1600 times for spraying. Whiteflies are particularly challenging due to overlapping generations, where adults, nymphs, eggs, and pseudopupae coexist. This makes it difficult to find a single treatment that targets all life stages effectively. Therefore, consistent and repeated applications are necessary to maximize control. The best time to spray is early in the morning when temperatures are cooler and the insect activity is lower. It's advisable to first spray the upper surface of the leaves, then the underside, allowing any airborne particles to settle and come into contact with the pesticide. Commonly used products include: 10% buprofezin EC diluted 1000 times, which is effective against eggs and nymphs but not adults; 2.5% Uranus EC diluted 3000 times, which targets adults, nymphs, and larvae but has limited effect on eggs; 25% chlorpyrifos oil diluted 1000 times, which works well on adults, eggs, and nymphs; and 2.5% Kung Fu EC diluted 3000 times, 20% chloramphenicol at 2000 times, and 40% dimethoate diluted 800–1000 times. For thrips, 50% fenbutatin WP is applied at 20–40 grams per acre, diluted 1000–2000 times. Alternatively, 10% bifenthrin can be used at 10–10 grams per acre, diluted 4000–8000 times to manage initial infestations. During the egg-laying period or early hatching stage of Liriomyza sativae (leafminer), 48% chlorpyrifos emulsifiable concentrate is applied at 50–75 ml per acre, diluted 500–800 times. Another option is 25% fenvalerate EC at 15–25 ml per acre, diluted 1500–2500 times, or 25% quinalphos EC at 50–70 ml per acre, diluted 600–800 times. It’s important to rotate pesticides regularly to prevent resistance and always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for safe and effective use. Monitoring the crop regularly will help determine the optimal timing for each application.
